Lunar New Year celebrations have often been associated with end-of-harvest celebrations, during which the Chinese community would offer thanks to the deities for a bountiful harvest, and pray for good fortune in the following year. Many of these practices became formalised during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD), with Lunar New Year celebrations gaining popularity during the Tang Dynasty (618 AD - 907 AD).
