Located on the outskirts of the city centre, the Balestier precinct is commonly associated with local delicacies and rows of shops selling lighting supplies. However, Balestier has many other aspects which are not as well-known. In the past, Balestier was a place where one could find plantations, markets, medical institutions as well as villas and clubs catering to the upper class. This exhibition covers the period from the mid-1800s to the 1960s and presents different aspects of Balestier’s heritage through text, artefacts, archival materials, historical photographs and oral interviews.
