In conjunction with Singapore Heritage Festival 2018, discover the hidden and lesser-known stories of Balestier and the Memorial Hall by joining us in an array of fun-filled activities. Visitors can learn more about Balestier’s entertainment scene in the past and famous food found in the precinct.

Interactive Photo booth: From Stage to Screen

Did you know that there exists a movie production studio in Balestier? Visit our interactive photobooth and find out more about Balestier's entertainment scene in the past! Snap a photo with your family and friends as you travel back in time to experience Balestier's old movie production studio and theatre. A roving photographer will be offering free instant prints from 2pm to 4pm on 14 and 15 April.

Balestier Food & Heritage Trail PLUS! *

Specially curated for Singapore Heritage Fest 2018, this thematic guided trail focuses on Balestier as a food and entertainment hub! Experience the charm and colours of Balesier - an area that has seen many changes, and yet still reminds one of yesteryear Singapore. Conducted in English and Mandarin.

Monument Tour *

Known as the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall or Wan Qing Yuan today, the villa played an important role in Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s 1911 Revolution. To uncover the full story of this house, we find out how this building came to be by looking at its architectural story, its development through history, and how it was used by Dr. Sun and his supporters in Singapore to plan three of the 10 uprisings that paved the way for the rise of modern China. Conducted in English.

Chinese Opera Parent-Child Workshop

Did you know that the stage at Gor Chor Tua Pek Kong Temple located on Balestier Road is one of the rare few wayang stages in Singapore? Indulge yourselves in the colourful world of Chinese opera, more commonly known as wayang, and learn more about this fascinating art form and its various styles in this workshop conducted by Singapore media personality, Nick Shen Weijun. Sign up for this workshop to learn more about the heritage and history of Chinese opera, get hands-on experience in Chinese operatic movements, and catch exciting ‘live’ face-changing and opera performances!

Permanent Gallery Guided Tour

Join us for a guided tour of Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall and hear the stories behind this century-old villa that featured prominently in Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s revolutionary activities in Southeast Asia. Gain valuable insights on the impact of the 1911 Revolution on Singapore, as well as Singapore’s contributions to the Revolution.

Participants will receive a special gift at the end of the tour. While stocks last.
