Lunar New Year celebrations have often been associated with end-of-harvest celebrations during which the Chinese community would offer thanks to the deities for a bountiful harvest and pray for good fortune. Many of these practices became formalised during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD), with Lunar New Year celebrations gaining popularity during the Tang Dynasty (618 AD - 907 AD).
Visit the Memorial Hall’s festive travelling exhibition to gain a deeper understanding of the origins, legends, and customs of one of the most celebrated festivals in the Chinese calendar.
The exhibition is available at Suntec City from 3 January to 8 February 2020.
